OUR STORY
Our story didn’t begin on December 09, 2018 but, our diagnosis did and so did The Rozzy. Our youngest daughter, Rozlyn was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia. We had no warning signs of sickness, much less cancer. On December 14, 2018 just five short days after being diagnosed, Rozlyn’s heart stopped. CPR was done and after five minutes, Rozlyn was brought back. We spent a week and a half in the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit and another week and a half in the Special Care Unit. Rozlyn had to learn to walk and do basic things all over again.
It was during these times that we realized that childhood cancer was only important to those directly involved with it. We ourselves were guilty of this much like the rest of the general public. We weren’t even aware that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, or that Gold is the ribbon associated with childhood cancer. It became important to us for obvious reasons, but helping others became just as important.
After returning to the Oncology floor at Children's of Alabama, Rozlyn went through several different chemotherapy regiments. Some of those regiments were not FDA approved for children and Rozlyn was the first child to ever receive those chemo’s. Because Rozlyn had AML, which is most commonly found in adults 60 and older, she was required to stay in the hospital for 30-45 days straight without going home. After eight months of chemotherapy treatment, we received the news no family battling cancer wants to hear. Our doctors had let us know that none of the treatments were successful and that there was nothing else that could be done to cure her. We were sent home with further care to make the remainder of her time here on earth, comfortable. We were still praying and believing in a miracle from our Lord and Savior. Our prayers were answered, and Rozlyn received her ultimate healing on September 12, 2019 at the age of 9 years old. Although her healing was not the healing we prayed for, we know she was healed. Our hearts have been shattered, and the hole will never be filled until we see her again. We watched our daughter fight a valiant battle and we will continue to fight her battle for her.
During our time in the hospital, we noticed that there are many families that do not have the support, both financially and spiritually, that we have had. Our goal is to fill the role that Christ has called us to be and “Love thy neighbor”. We want to show this love through prayer and financial assistance to those that need it. Join us today in helping other and being an extension of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We here at The Rozzy Foundation would love your support, weather that is through a financial donation, or through your continues prayers to God.
